{"id":172,"date":"2010-01-14T17:16:09","date_gmt":"2010-01-14T21:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leahyinstitute.org\/?page_id=172"},"modified":"2010-01-14T17:27:46","modified_gmt":"2010-01-14T21:27:46","slug":"monster-of-love","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/leahyinstitute.org\/?page_id=172","title":{"rendered":"Monster of Love"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Monster of Love<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As I puffed my cigarette, I thought with great regret<\/p>\n<p>of the one and only demon in my past.<\/p>\n<p>And though entrenched in here and now, the sweat remains upon my brow,<\/p>\n<p>product of that amorous nuclear blast.<\/p>\n<p>The seductive rhapsody of that female TNT<\/p>\n<p>ensnared me as the snake doth charm the man.<\/p>\n<p>As if god\u2019s legions were her army, she conquered and disarmed me<\/p>\n<p>As only one of Satan\u2019s gender can.<\/p>\n<p>I worshipped every trace of that witch\u2019s lovely face<\/p>\n<p>And glorified the soul I thought I knew.<\/p>\n<p>From front row pew I gazed aloft at her altar smooth and soft,<\/p>\n<p>heaven encased in woman I did construe.<\/p>\n<p>But I was shortly to discover, angelic camouflage did cover<\/p>\n<p>A temperament as innocent as a blight.<\/p>\n<p>So from the comforts of her arms, I flew with soundings of alarms,<\/p>\n<p>Red Stage Alert and exit swift stage right.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusion when I came to it indicated that I blew it,<\/p>\n<p>And deep I drank the bitter cup of sorrow.<\/p>\n<p>I retreated hurt and lame but eventually became<\/p>\n<p>A better man prepared to face the morrow.<\/p>\n<p>At times I\u2019m still beset by my tendency to reflect,<\/p>\n<p>To think of her is certainly my bane.<\/p>\n<p>As memories linger on, this warning I would pass on<\/p>\n<p>to other men not overly fond of pain.<\/p>\n<p>She enraged and consumed me, and by the buds that bloomed me,<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d rather sip the sumac than taste her wine.<\/p>\n<p>And though envisioning pearly gates, a different hell awaits,<\/p>\n<p>the lonely pilgrim that stumbles upon her shrine.<\/p>\n<p>-John Leahy, Ca 1980<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monster of Love As I puffed my cigarette, I thought with great regret of the one and only demon in my past.
